Upon successful completion of the program, you will be awarded an IPWEA Professional Certificate in Asset Management Planning and develop a draft Asset Management Plan with an Improvement Plan for one asset class.

On average, each module will take approximately 2-3 hours to complete the mandatory learning activities. Additionally, you will be required to complete your final assignment, a draft Asset Management Plan incorporating an Improvement Plan. Your final assignment may take 20-30 hours to complete, depending upon the size and readiness of your asset management information.

An optional 45 minute live Q&A session is scheduled each module, providing an opportunity for you to ask questions and discuss key concepts of asset management with a mentor.

Total estimated 50 – 60 hours (depending on available data & previous experience).

In this course, participants will gain the skills to articulate the benefits of an asset management (AM) plan and effectively communicate service and risk consequences to stakeholders. They will learn how to document both customer and technical levels of service, as well as develop a comprehensive risk register and risk management plan. A key focus will be on interpreting asset management figures, graphs, and reports, enabling participants to make informed decisions based on data insights.

Participants will also be guided through the practical aspects of asset management, including choosing appropriate data for renewal planning methods and learning how to collate, upload, edit, and report on AM data. They will develop demand management strategies, set priorities for capital works, and prepare a draft asset management plan. Furthermore, they will learn how to connect AM plan expenditure projections to a long-term financial plan and identify key areas for improvement within the plan, ensuring it remains robust and forward-looking.

Since starting with local government nearly 25 years ago, Adam has held a number of senior roles in asset financial management in NSW State Government, Federal Government and the University sector. There are no specific pre-requisites for the Asset Management Foundations course. It is designed to cater to professionals from various backgrounds who are interested in asset management. However, a basic understanding of asset management concepts or experience in an asset-intensive organization can be beneficial.

The IPWEA Professional Certificate in Asset Management Planning is a short course which is practitioner based and focussed. A professional certificate is awarded by IPWEA upon successful completion of the course. Successful candidates may use the postnominals: ProfCertAM if they choose to do so. E.g. J.Citizen ProfCertAM.

The Engineering Institute of Canada (EIC) recognizes NAMS Canada as a Quality Provider of continuing education units (CEU) to the engineering community. Successful completion of the Professional Certificate is recognized as 5.0 EU points by EIC. Let us know if you are seeking CEU’s under the EIC as we will need to register you for this recognition.

Each of the modules consists of videos and homework tasks. These can be undertaken during the week of the module at a time that suits the participant. Weekly there will be a live Q&A session in which participants can raise questions and receive answers directly from the course mentors. The Q&A sessions will be recorded but are not mandatory for successful completion of the course. The recording of the Q&A session is usually available within 24 hours of each live event.

Terms and Conditions

Cancellation:

Participants may cancel their enrolment at any time. Cancellations received prior to the commencement of the course will not incur any penalty. Cancellations received after the course has commenced will be required to pay 100% of the course fee.

Enrolment suspension and transfer:

  • Applications to suspend and transfer enrolment to the next course must be received by the course administrator before the start of Module 1.
  • Applications for suspension and transfer received after commencement of Module 1 will incur a fee equal to 50% of the course registration fee to transfer to a future course.
  • Participants who have transferred enrolment to a Course must recommence on the next available course.
  • Participants who are granted an enrolment suspension and transfer will be provided access to all modules of the subsequent Course. Any of the work completed on the eLearning portal during the initial enrolment will not be transferred to the subsequent course.

Course fee payment:

Participants must ensure course fee payments are complete prior to the commencement of the course. In the event of late enrolments, IPWEA will accept an official Purchase Order as proof of pending payment. Participants who have not paid the course fee, do not receive feedback on their assignment submissions and cannot complete the course.

Extensions:

Extensions to complete work/assignments which are due will only be given in the following circumstances:

  • Illness or injury of the candidate or his/her immediate family where the candidate is one of the primary caregivers;
  • Death or incapacity of a family member or close relative;
  • Abnormal or unanticipated work load resulting from entity restructures or severe natural weather events such as earthquakes, storms, floods.

Assignment:

Assignments must be the participant’s own work. The use of AI to complete assignments can be detected. Participants using AI to complete assignments are not demonstrating that they understand the key concepts in the course and will be asked to resubmit.

Course Closure and Finalisation:

Participants will have access to the online course environment, IPWEA eLearning platform for a reasonable period following the conclusion of the course to facilitate assignment completion.

Our commitment to participants:

  • The Assignments will remain confidential and will only be used for the mentor’s assessment and feedback.
  • Mentors will respond to participant questions in a timely manner.
  • Mentors will provide support to all participants as far as practical to assist them to complete the course.

Privacy:

Personal information will be handled in accordance with IPWEA’s privacy policy, available on IPWEA’s website.
